FAQ / Photos

Uploading, cropping, resizing...all these tasks may seem daunting, especially to those who have difficulty with easy computer tasks like finding the ‘on' button.  Not to worry, Kisscafe has made even the most complicated of tasks straightforward enough for anyone to accomplish...once you get the computer turned on.

How do I upload photos?

In order to get your photos into your photo album, you'll need to upload them from the pictures you have already scanned onto your computer or transferred from a digital camera.  First go to the ''My Photos'' section of your account by selecting the ''My Photos'' link from the menu at the extreme top right of the page.  Click on a vacant square in your photo album that says, ''Add Photo''. From there, a window will open that you can use to upload and crop your photos.  through the picture files on your computer and select the image you want.  You can upload up to five photos at once by selecting ''Ok'' when you have the photo you want, then clicking again, and repeating the process.  Up to five photos that you choose will be added to the list that will be uploaded once you've found the pictures you want and hit ''Upload pictures''.

Next, you'll crop and fit your photos by using the cropping square that appears.  Expand or contract the borders to make the square larger and show more of your image by bringing your mouse to the very edge of the border until a small arrow appears.  Click and drag the border to increase or decrease the area of the square.

Adjust the placement of the square by clicking the centre of the square and dragging it until it is in the right position, or by using the arrows on your keyboard.  Each key stroke will move your photo 1 pixel.  By holding down the ''Shift'' key, you can increase the movement to 10 pixels with each stroke.

For more on cropping click here.

Follow the rest of the steps to customize your images, add caption and titles, and set your privacy settings. Click once you've finished uploading and customizing your picture's settings, and the next photo for you to edit will appear.

What about sizes and formats?

You can upload JPEG, BMP, GIF, AND PNG photos, but everything will be compressed by us into JPEGs for our site.

There is no maximum amount of pixels for you to upload your photos. This will be resized by us as well.

There is a 1.5mb max for the file size of your photos (that's pretty large). Most of your photos will be well under that size.  If they happen to be larger, you can use a photo resizing program (there are lots available on the internet, try google.com to find one you like), or even Paint to adjust the size of your file.

For more help on this, go to the photo section of our Help Page.

Can I customize my photos?

Once your photo is uploaded, you can crop it to include the parts of the photo you want to focus on, and leave out the excess.  If your photo is on the small side, there will be a white border fitted around it.

The ideal way to fit your photos is to crop them to a 3:2 ratio (for example, 600pixel width and 400pixel height). The grey background of the cropping window that appears when you upload a photo can help provide a guide for what the size of your photo should be.  Making your photos larger (at least 300 pixels in width and height) will help your profile photo look better.

click here to learn how to crop your photos.

There are also many image editing programs or online editing programs available to help you get your photos just right.

After this, you can add a title for your photo.  You can add more detailed information about each picture in the ''description'' section in the uploading window. Tags can be added to help you organize your photos and make them easier to find.

You should also check the privacy setting. Selecting ''privates Only'' will restrict access of that photo to your private contacts.  Tags, titles, privacy settings, and comments can be edited by clicking the edit button for the selected photo, scrolling to the bottom of your screen, and editing the information that you want. Hit and your changes will be applied.

Are there photo restrictions?

As a worldwide information, networking and communications website, Kisscafe encourages the spread of realistic, relevant and informative media through our online community.  For this reason, we want to employ as open a policy as possible towards posting material, with the hopes of raising awareness and sparking discussion on issues that matter to you. Although we encourage imagery that reflects what is happening in the real world, and don't want to discourage the posting of photos because of violence and nudity, any photos containing such imagery must be set to private.

We will not permit any sexually explicit images, or those that encourage or celebrate violent behaviour.  Since Kisscafe is a community based website, it's up to you to tell us what photos you find inappropriate or offensive.  To report an offensive photo or comment, select the ''Report Photo'' or ''Report This Comment'' button for that item. You can also choose to delete that contact from your Favorites, block them, or ignore the material.

To delete a contact, go to your Favorites page and select the trash icon connected to the profile of the user you want to remove. To block a member from sending you messages, go to your Communication Center and select the ''Block User'' button when they send you a message to prevent them from contacting you in the future.

What's the best way to present my photos?

With so many options at your fingertips, it's easy to get your photos looking just right:

Crop your pictures to focus in on the main part of the photo and bring attention to what you want people to see.  Cropping can help reduce the clutter in your pictures. For more on cropping, click here.

Choose photos that are the right size.  Small pictures can be hard to see, while larger pictures can be easier to work with. (1.5mb is the maximum size that you can upload)  You can edit the size of your photos using a photo resizing program, or by cropping it to fit.  After your photos are uploaded, they will be automatically modified to fit up to four different sizes, depending on where they appear.

Use photo editing to modify what your final image will look like.  There are lots of programs that can help you fix nearly any aspect of the photo that you want to change.

Titles and Captions tell other people what your photos are about.  Be concise with your titles to grab attention and use your captions to tell more about the content of your photos.  The words you use in your title will help other users search and find your pictures and bring more people to your profile page.

Tags can make your photos easier to find.  If you want to find all the photos that have your cat, ''Maxwell'' in them, add his name to the photos with tags.  That way, when you want to find all the pictures containing the tag ''Maxwell'' they can be immediately grouped together for you. Tags can also make your photos easier for other people to find.  The more popular the tag you use, the more likely it will turn up in a search for photos with that tag. For instance, the tag ''cat'' will turn up in more searches than ''Maxwell'' will.

What is photo cropping and how do I do it?

After uploading your photos, you'll need to crop them before saving them into your photo album.  To crop, click and drag the borders of the cropping square (the square that appears over your photo) to expand or contract the area. Bring your mouse to the very edge of the border until a small arrow appears, then adjust the borders to change the area of your image.

Quick Tip: You can adjust the placement of the square by clicking the centre of the square and dragging it into the right position. You can also use the arrow keys on your keyboard.  Each stroke will move the square 1 pixel.  Holding ''Shift'' while using the arrow keys, moves the square 10 pixels.

The screen on the left will show you how your photo will appear as it's cropped.  Fill in the title, caption, and Tags then save what you've finished.

To go change anything you've cropped, click ''edit'' on the photo you want to fix. Scroll down until you see an enlarged version of that photo.  Click the button on the bottom right and the cropping square will appear.  Repeat the same process to crop as you did when you originally uploaded your photo.

  • ID Card: This is the second smallest size and will appear in searches and when you're communicating with other members.
  • Profile Photo: This is the size that your profile photo will appear as and is the second largest size for your pictures.
  • Large Image:  This image has a maximum size of 600px width or 600px height.  This is the size that photos will appear when they are selected in your Photo Album.
